Senator Tuberville announces relocation of Fannie Mae offices to Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville announced news on his Facebook about the possibility of new jobs moving into Alabama soon.
On Thursday, Dec. 11, Tuberville shared that he has been working with President Donald Trump and Federal Housing Authority Director Bill Pulte to move the offices of Fannie Mae from California to Alabama.
Fannie Mae headed to Birmingham
“There are great jobs coming to the state that will help reestablish Birmingham as one of the leading financial hubs of the South,” said Tuberville. He stated in a call that he wants Fannie Mae to relocate to Birmingham.
According to Tuberville, Fannie Mae is one of the largest mortgage financers in the world. He says this move is an early Christmas present for Alabamians.
Tuberville also said in a call that he does not believe there will be any legal challenges with the move.
“We’ll have more announcements soon, but know that my priorities now, and in the coming years will be creating more opportunities to keep our kids in the state, raising the standard of living, all while keeping the cost of living down,” said Tuberville.
“Alabama is a great place to live and work, and we’re going to keep selling our state to the world.”
WBRC reached out to the city of Birmingham. They said they have no details on the move.
WBRC confirmed that Fannie Mae’s San Francisco office will relocate to Alabama with the goal of reducing cost and improving service in the Southeast.
The office will likely open early 2026 with the move beginning in the first quarter of the new year. It is too early to say exactly where it will be located, though a search is underway for office spaces in Birmingham.
WBRC also confirmed California employees will not be required to relocate. Fannie Mae does not disclose regional office totals so WBRC was unable to confirm job numbers.
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey also weighed in on the news.
“As I have long said Alabama is not California, and that is a good thing. Alabama is the best place to live, work and raise a family, and I could not be more excited for Fannie Mae’s move to Birmingham.”
Representative Terri Sewell also shared the following statement.
“I heard the Senator’s news and look forward to getting the details. Birmingham is an amazing city with so much to offer. It would be a pleasure to welcome Fannie Mae to the Magic City.”
