Crystal Palace are targeting a top-eight finish and a bye to the Conference League round of 16 when they take on KuPS at Selhurst Park on Thursday.

Crystal Palace vs KuPS preview

Oliver Glasner will have been reading the fixture list and checking it twice as his Crystal Palace side prepare for a run of three matches in three different competitions in the space of six days.

Palace’s frantic schedule starts with a Conference League game against Finnish champions KuPS before they dash up to Leeds for Saturday’s 8pm Premier League kick-off.

On Tuesday the Eagles have an EFL Cup quarter-final at Arsenal but Glasner’s first objective is to secure a top-eight finish in the Conference League and ease the workload in the new year.

Palace are ninth in the table going into matchday six so a home win over KuPS should seal a bye to the round of 16.

Last season’s FA Cup winners are 100-30 to add the Conference League to their trophy cabinet despite a shock 1-0 home defeat to AEK Larnaca and a 2-1 loss at Strasbourg, who are 5-1 second-favourites in the outright betting.

There is a financial chasm between Palace and most of their rivals in this competition. KuPS drew 0-0 away to Breidablik of Iceland in front of 821 spectators on matchday two and last week just over 2,000 fans watched their goalless stalemate at home to Lausanne.

They retained the Finnish title last month and have lost only one of their five league-phase games, beating Slovan Bratislava 3-1 on matchday three.

But KuPS failed to score on their last five European away trips, in Europa League and Champions League qualifying as well as the Conference League, and Palace should grind out a win.

Glasner’s men beat AZ Alkmaar 3-1 in their last Conference League home fixture but only one of their other 24 games this season produced over 3.5 goals.
