Under renovation since December 30, 2019, the Salt Lake Temple is nearing completion. An open house celebration to tour the temple and surrounding Temple Square will be held for the public from April to October 2027.

The Church leaders, who have been closely involved throughout the project, toured the site as construction enters its final phase, visiting spaces such as one of two baptistries, the marriage-sealing rooms and other rooms used for sacred ceremonies.

At the October 2025 general conference, President Oaks spoke of the importance of temples: “The ordinances received [in temples] enable us to return as eternal families to the presence of our Heavenly Father.”

For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, temples are more than places of worship; they are considered houses of the Lord, places set apart for followers of Jesus Christ to draw closer to Him. In these sacred spaces, individuals and families learn about God’s plan for His children, make promises to live Christlike lives and perform sacred ordinances that unite families for eternity.
