President Bill Clinton impeached by U.S. House on Dec. 19, 1998

MONROE, La. (KNOE) – The United State House of Representatives voted to impeach President Bill Clinton on Dec. 19, 1998.

The vote came after extensive investigation into Clinton’s business dealings led by Special Counsel Kenneth Starr.

Starr’s report to Congress concluded Clinton had lied about his relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinski.

The House sent two articles to the Senate for a trial.

In February 1999, the Senate acquitted Clinton.
