Wilmington, N.Y. ― The winter weather was too much for one of the biggest ski resorts in the state on Friday.

Whiteface Mountain near Lake Placid shut down operations due to high winds with gusts that reached more than 110 mph. Those top winds are the same as those in a Category 3 hurricane.

One Facebook commenter joked: “That’ll get you down the mountain really fast.”

Whiteface also suffered power outages at times, according to a post on the resort’s Facebook page announcing the closure.

High winds caused power outages across the state as a front crossed, bringing heavy rains and falling temperatures.
