• Henri Veesaar’s go-ahead dunk with seven seconds to play gave UNC the 71-70 victory. Veesaar’s field goal was UNC’s first go-ahead basket in the final 10 seconds of a win since Elliot Cadeau’s four-point play (three-pointer plus a free throw) at Notre Dame on 1/4/2025 with 4.8 seconds to play.
• It was Carolina’s first one-point win since beating Pitt, 67-66, on 2/8/2025.
• Carolina is 8-4 in the CBS Sports Classic, including 4-0 vs. the Buckeyes.
• Jonathan Powell’s three-pointer 5:22 into the game marked the 1,000th consecutive game the Tar Heels have made a three-pointer.
• Caleb Wilson led all scorers with 20 points and grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds. Wilson scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half.
• Wilson tied his season high with nine field goals.
• Wilson has posted double-doubles in eight of his first 12 college games.
• Wilson’s 15 rebounds equal the most by a Tar Heel this season (Veesaar had 15 vs. Georgetown).
• Henri Veesaar had his sixth career double-double (all this season), tallying 17 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high five assists.
• It was the fifth time Wilson and Veesaar had double-doubles in the same game, tying the eighth-most in a season by a pair of Tar Heels.
• Seth Trimble returned to the lineup for the first time after missing nine games with a broken bone in his left forearm. He started and hit three 3FGs in the second half. He scored 17 points and added three assists and two rebounds.
• Trimble tied his career high with three 3FGs (also vs. Elon 11/4/2024).
• Freshman Derek Dixon tied his season high with four assists.
• Carolina had 22 assists on 28 field goals. Over the last three games, the Tar Heels have 60 assists on their 83 field goals (72.3%).
• The Tar Heels had 15 more assists than turnovers (22-7). That’s the largest margin this season (previous was 14 vs. USC Upstate when UNC had 20 assists and six turnovers).
• The Tar Heel defense limited Ohio State to 39.7 percent shooting from the floor in the game. UNC is 8-0 this season and 53-4 under head coach Hubert Davis when holding opponents under 40 percent.
• Ohio State scored 70 points, and Carolina has held each of its first 12 opponents under 75 points for just the second time in the post-Dean Smith era (the 1997-98 team under head coach Bill Guthridge also didn’t yield 75 points in the first 12 games).
• Carolina was 7 for 13 from the free throw line. It was a season low in makes and attempts and UNC shot a season-worst 53.8^% from the line.
• The Tar Heels bench outscored the Ohio State bench, 15-0. It was the first time the opponents didn’t score a bench point since Pitt on 1/8/2020.
• UNC is 14-3 against Ohio State, including 8-1 at neutral sites and 4-0 in the CBS Sports Classic.
• Carolina is 3-2 in State Farm Arena.
