Video shows moment shoplifting suspect in Ohio pulls out gun, attempts to shoot officer

CANTON, Ohio (KABC) — A man in Ohio is facing attempted murder charges after he pulled out a gun and attempted to shoot a police officer – and it was all caught on video.
The incident happened Thursday afternoon at a Walmart in Canton, Ohio, when police arrested 21-year-old Shane Newman and 23-year-old Katerina Jeffrey on suspicion of shoplifting.
In the video, you hear Jeffrey asking an officer, “Are we going to jail?”
“Not unless something crazy happens,” the officer responds.
Before Newman sat down, he was patted down.
“Nothing on you that’s going to poke me, stab me?” the officer asked Newman.
“No,” Newman responded.
Minutes pass, then suddenly, Newman pulls out a gun.
“While processing the two suspects in the store’s loss prevention office, the male produced a handgun and attempted to shoot the officer, but the weapon did not fire,” police said in a statement.
The officer and a Walmart loss prevention employee jumped on Newman, causing him to drop the gun.
No injuries were reported.
Jeffrey now faces a robbery charge and Newman faces several charges, including assaulting a peace officer and attempted murder.
