Kate Middleton brought a bit of holiday joy to the hospital where she received cancer treatment.
On Dec. 16, the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust shared a photo of a vibrantly decorated Christmas tree donated by the Princess of Wales, 43 — who was diagnosed with cancer in January 2024 — standing near the entrance of the Oak Cancer Centre in Sutton, England.
“Thank you to HRH The Princess of Wales, Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden with HRH The Prince of Wales, for donating a majestic Christmas tree from the ‘Together at Christmas’ carol service, held at Westminster Abbey earlier this month,” the foundation, a leading cancer research and treatment center, wrote on Instagram.
In January, Kate and her husband, Prince William, made the decision to serve as patrons of the hospital, where she received cancer treatments for much of 2024. At the time, she made a surprise visit to the hospital to “show her gratitude to the incredible team” at the medical center, a spokesman for Kensington Palace shared.
Before finding a new home at the cancer center, the tree was used to decorate Kate’s fifth annual “Together at Christmas” carol service on Dec. 5 at Westminster Abbey in London. And while the palace was decorated with an abundance of elegant trees and shimmering lights, the event also saw Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis make their first joint outing in six months.

While the family color coordinated in green and blue, with George’s tie matching his mom’s forest green coat dress, the trio also added their own personal touch to the decor at the festive event. Indeed, George, 12, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7, were each photographed writing their names on pieces of colored parchment pieces before adding them to a long chain that would then line a Christmas tree outside Westminster Abbey.
A few days after the service, Emily Taylor, who had been invited alongside her husband James to represent kids’ hospice Tŷ Hafan in South Wales, told PEOPLE that experiencing the celebration alongside the royal family was “monumental.”
“It was one of those moments when you’re trying to take everything in,” she said. “To actually see the Prince and the Princess and their children walking in together in these grand surroundings. It felt so monumental. I was just trying to take it all in.”
“You see them, and they are a parent and their children,” she added. “You just realize they are just humans, a mom and a dad with their children.”
