Police ID victim and suspect in Kearny, New Jersey deadly bow and arrow attack, fires

KEARNY, New Jersey (WABC) — Chilling video shows the moments after a deadly bow and arrow attack in Kearny, New Jersey.

The victim’s family says it happened when he was on his way home from work on Saturday.

Oscar Feijoo, 44, of Kearny, was arrested in the murder of Pablo Criollo, 45, of Harrison and an Ecuadorian immigrant, after a standoff and a fire.

Criollo’s family says they think this could have been prevented.

They sat on the cold, hard sidewalk at the spot where their loved one collapsed and poured out their anger and grief.

“My husband was a good man – a great man. He was a handworker; you can tell from the clothes he was wearing and to be killed like that from behind,” Criollo’s wife said.

She said he was looking forward to getting paid on Sunday so he could buy a new table for the family, as they were looking forward to spending Christmas together.

“I’m devastated – not only for me but also for my daughter. She asks for him every morning ‘When is daddy coming home?” his wife said.

New surveillance video shows the seconds after Criollo was hit in the back with an arrow.

He began walking, then stumbling down the sidewalk before collapsing.

He was rushed to University Hospital in Newark, where he later died.

The suspect, Feijoo, barricaded himself at his home at 20 Kearny Avenue.

Police and SWAT team units were brought in as residents were told to shelter in place or evacuate.

Feijoo allegedly started two fires and the fire department battled both blazes to keep them from spreading to multiple attached buildings.

“Around 7 or 8 o’clock the police started showing up and they started doing the investigative work. And about 12 a.m. I walked by and I saw that’s when the SWAT team started showing up,” said Anthony Collantes.

“5 o’clock in the morning when it started, the fire, the SWAT, they tell me everybody out,” said Ana Cristina Pacheco.

After more than an 18-hour standoff, the suspect surrendered.

He was wearing a red bandana on his head and knives around his waist as he walked out surrounded by officers in SWAT gear.

Neighbors said he is a troubled person.

Police are still investigating whether the victim and the suspect were known to each other.

On Monday, Feijoo was charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and aggravated arson.

Police are investigating the possible connection between a man’s death and a massive fire in Kearny.

The victim’s family said he has a daughter who is in kindergarten and a stepdaughter.
