LANSING, MI — Powerball players across the country are hoping to give their Christmas Eve a huge boost of cheer as Wednesday night’s jackpot is worth an estimated $1.7 billion.
The cash option for the Dec. 24 drawing is worth $781.3 million. The jackpot is the fourth largest prize in Powerball history and the fourth largest in U.S. lottery history.
Once again, MLive will provide the results shortly after the drawing takes place at 11 p.m. EST.

There have been 46 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner, leading to tonight’s massive jackpot. The last time anyone won the grand prize was on Sept. 6 when a player in Missouri and a player in Texas matched all five white balls and the red Powerball to split a $1.787 billion prize.
Powerball is offered in 45 States, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Players select five white numbers from (1 to 69) and one red ball (1 to 26). Tickets cost $2 each.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Breakfast Club lottery club which claimed an $842 million jackpot in June 2024. The members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.
And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a Powerball winner worth $250,000 sold in Bloomfield Hills in 2024 went unclaimed. That money went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
