Stocks Are About to Pull Off a Rare Christmas Feat

Large-cap stocks are now on course for an achievement that hasn’t been seen in more than a decade.
The S&P 500 is up 0.2% right now. If it’s still in the green when the market shuts at 1 p.m. Eastern time, it’ll notch its 39th new high of 2025. It would also be the first time that the benchmark index has notched a record close on Christmas Eve since Dec. 24, 2013.
It’s one measure of how strong the gauge’s gains have been this year. Even during a period that’s supposed to be quiet, it is managing rare feats.
