2 adults, 2 children taken to hospital after SUV slams into coffee shop

Two adults and two children were taken to hospitals in Tacoma after the family’s vehicle drove through a coffee shop in Gorst on Wednesday night, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

The driver, a 47-year-old man from Bremerton, was driving his family when he suffered a medical emergency, WSP said.

The vehicle veered off the road and slammed into Sadie Mae’s Coffee.

The SUV was carrying a 47-year-old woman, an 8-year-old girl, and a 5-year-old boy.

The collision destroyed the small building and totaled the vehicle.

The driver is facing a charge of second-degree negligent driving, WSP said.

The adults were taken to Tacoma General Hospital, and the children were taken to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital.

A WSP report noted that the children were not wearing seatbelts. Multiple airbags appeared to deploy in a photo shared by WSP Trooper Katherine Weatherwax.

Weatherwax said power lines were down and there was a sewage spill.

The report indicated that troopers do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
