Yellow warnings for freezing rain & rainfall for region

It is certainly a Sunday where you’ll want to stay indoors, with three weather alerts issued by Environment Canada.

Those weather alerts say the region is in place for rain, freezing rain and high winds.

Freezing rain is expected to start around noon Sunday and as the day warms up that will transition into regular rainfall in the afternoon.

The rain is expected to carry on into the evening and overnight into Monday morning.

The total amount of rainfall in the region is forecast to be 20 to 40 mm, with ice build up from the freezing rain expected.

“Roads and walkways will likely become icy and slippery,” environment Canada says. “Icy surfaces could be difficult to detect.”

The treacherous conditions won’t end Sunday night, however. Transitioning into Monday, expect strong southwesterly winds that are bringing in a cold front.

Wind gusts of up to 80 km/h are forecasted which have the potential to do damage to things like fences and power lines.

Monday will see temperatures dip back below freezing as well, with a high of -3 C.

Roads and sidewalks remain icy and hazardous, with some areas experiencing water pooling. Please adjust your driving and walking habits accordingly.
