JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 38-year-old Jacksonville man died Saturday afternoon in a violent crash on I-295 northbound at Herlong Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the man was headed north around 12:30 p.m. in a pick-up truck in the inside lane, north of Wilson Boulevard, when he changed lanes to the outside lane, lost control and hit a metal guardrail.
According to the crash report, the truck drove through the guardrail, slamming into a concrete pillar of the Herlong Road overpass before catching fire.
The collision separated the cab and bed of the truck, and the mangled remains could be seen on traffic cameras as crews worked to remove the wreckage Saturday afternoon.
