INTERVIEW: “Motivation High For Leicester Clash” – Elder

Defender Callum Elder says Derby County can look to use the recent reverse fixture against Leicester City as motivation to spur the team on when Derby County travel to King Power Stadium on Monday evening (7:45pm kick off).

The Australian international full-back was in the starting line-up for the 3-1 Sky Bet Championship defeat to the Foxes at Pride Park Stadium earlier this month, with an uncharacteristically poor first half from the Rams still fresh in his memory.

Unbeaten in four since that fixture, with their last outing a 1-1 draw at Birmingham City on Boxing Day, Elder told RamsTV that he and his Derby team-mates are excited for the prospect of seeing out 2025 with a short trip down the M1.

On Facing Leicester For The Second Time This Month:

We know we want to show a solid response from the home game we played against them. We weren’t good enough in the first 45 minutes, but we’ve learned our lessons from that day.

We’ll look to get on the front foot against them from the off this time around and show the good character that we have to show away from home. We’re excited for the game.

On The Squad Fighting For Each Other:

The performance at Birmingham showed what we’re all about as a squad. That’s the standards we set in our changing room. Through adversity, we’ll always stick together.

It was really disappointing to concede off a set piece, but we didn’t let it affect us. We carried on through in the second half and I thought we showed good leadership throughout the squad.

Over the course of the season, you’re going to have moments of adversity, so it’s about displaying leadership, character and standing tall when things like that happen. We showed that in abundance on Boxing Day, especially in the second half, and earned a good point moving into Leicester.
