Major Outage Hits Walmart: Website and App Down, Disrupting Shopping and Services Nationwide

In a significant disruption affecting millions of consumers, Walmart’s online platform experienced a widespread outage on December 30, 2025, rendering both the website and mobile app inaccessible for several hours. The failure prevented users from completing purchases, selecting streaming content, or even accessing their accounts, leading to widespread frustration during a peak holiday recovery period.

At the time of this posting, Walmart’s help accounts are just asking people for more information and have not posted anything about the outage.

The outage has also impacted Sam’s Club website, along with Amazon’s Spark Driver service that manages the drivers for its Walmart deliveries, likely resulting in delayed deliveries until this issue is resolved.

The issues began early in the morning, with reports flooding in from across the United States as customers attempted to log in for post-holiday deals and essential services. The website displayed error messages or failed to load entirely, while the app crashed repeatedly upon opening. This outage extended beyond basic e-commerce functions, impacting integrated features such as grocery pickup scheduling and entertainment options through Walmart’s partnered streaming services.

Shoppers planning to buy everyday items like groceries, electronics, or household goods found themselves unable to add products to their carts or proceed to checkout. The timing exacerbated the problem, as many relied on Walmart’s online presence for last-minute New Year’s preparations. Families preparing for celebrations reported delays in ordering party supplies, while others missed out on flash sales advertised for the day.

The streaming component of Walmart’s ecosystem also suffered, with users unable to browse or select movies, shows, or music through the platform’s entertainment hub. This feature, which allows seamless integration with purchases of physical media or digital rentals, left entertainment seekers without options during a time when indoor activities surged due to winter weather in many regions.

Login failures compounded the chaos, as even registered users could not access their profiles to check order histories, update payment information, or manage subscriptions.

The incident underscored vulnerabilities in modern retail ecosystems. Walmart, as one of the world’s largest retailers, invests heavily in technology to blend online and offline experiences, but such downtimes reveal the fragility of these systems. Industry experts noted that holiday seasons often test infrastructure limits, with traffic spikes from promotions and returns.

No word yet from Walmart on when the service will be restored.
