Call Doechii Lot’s wife for the way she’s looking back. The rapper ended her breakout year with a song and music video titled “girl, get up.” Featuring SZA on the chorus, the braggadocios track is both a flex and a therapy session. Doechii uses the lyrics to respond to her haters in startlingly direct terms and deliver teases about what the coming year has in store for her. It’s laid-back, with a guitar-based beat based on a sample of “What Happened to That Boy” by Baby ft. Clipse, and listening to the song feels like you’re in a smoke sesh with her. On the choruses, SZA’s voice floats in from the back, sharing manifestations and advice. “Fuck a limitation, leave me, girl, get up,” she lilts. “Somehow I know that I’ll have everything that’s mine.”
Doechii takes a more direct approach. “All that industry plant shit wack,” she raps on the second verse, referring to some fans’ confusion over her winning the 2025 Best Rap Album Grammy. “I see it on the blogs, I see you in the chats.” She tells the people who are in disbelief over her come-up, “Y’all can’t fathom that I work this hard / And y’all can’t fathom that I earned this chart / Y’all can’t stand my vibe ’cause I’m anointed / All y’all evil-ass hoes just annoyin’.” She even acknowledges the blogosphere allegations that she’s currently on drugs, rapping “Y’all wanna believe I’m on drugs and forsaken / They won’t credit me, so they blame it on Satan / Blame it on my label, blame it on my team / End of the day, everything is on me.”
Doechii also drops a hint that an album could be coming soon. “These n- – – – – misogynistic, I’ll address it on the album,” she says. “For now, let’s sink into the fact that hate don’t make you powerful.” Then, looking ahead more broadly, she promises: “Used to be a starvin’ artist, now I want the whole dinner / Bitch, I want my things.” Doechii dropping this song, finishing up by gesturing toward her greater ambitions, gives the sense that she just had a few things to get off her chest before entering the New Year clearheaded. Watch out, 2026, because Doechii is unloaded and ready.
