The Real Madrid legend was on holiday in Brazil following a busy month which saw him attend the World Cup draw in the United States.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Carlos was initially taken to hospital due to a small blood clot in his leg.

Their report claims that a full-body MRI subsequently detected an issue with his heart.

Carlos is said to have immediately required urgent surgery in order to have a tube fitted.
