Knife-wielding man shot by officer in Strawberry Mansion, Philadelphia police say

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A man was shot during a confrontation with police officers in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia early Wednesday morning.
It happened just before 3 a.m. in the 1800 block of North Bailey Street.
Officers responded to a call for a “person screaming”.
Upon arrival, officers approached the residence and heard arguing inside and a female voice yelling.
When officers knocked at the door, they initially received no answer.
Ultimately, a child opened the door, allowing the officers to enter the residence.
Once inside, officers found a 31-year-old man armed with a knife standing over a 30-year-old woman who was lying on the floor.
The man disregarded the officers’ commands to drop the knife before turning toward them, jumping over a sofa and moving in their direction while still armed.
One of the officers then discharged his firearm, striking the man in the chest.
The man was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he underwent surgery and is listed in critical condition.
No injuries were reported by the female victim or the officers.
As per protocol, the discharging officer has been placed on administrative duty while the investigation continues.
