HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The City of Houston now says it will start monitoring areas of the city where ABC13 reported self-driving taxis have been seen idling for days.

On Monday night, ABC13 reported that several Waymo cars have been seen sitting on residential streets in north Houston.

One Houstonian says she saw a car on Moody Street sit for five days before disappearing. She says it returned a week later.

Waymo sent the following statement to ABC13 on Monday.

“Waymo vehicles use publicly available parking spaces when needed between trips. We do this because driving around without passengers would unnecessarily add to congestion and be an inefficient use of the vehicle.”

A city ordinance prohibits vehicles from occupying the same spot on a public street for more than 24 hours.
