Jimmie Johnson’s 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season preview

Jimmie Johnson is coming back for another slate of races during the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season. In 2025, Johnson almost won the Daytona 500 and started his 700th Cup Series race in the Coca-Cola 600. Now, the seven-time Cup Series champion is back for more in the Daytona 500 and San Diego Street Course event.
As of now, it is unclear whether Johnson will compete in any other races, but the Daytona 500 and his hometown race in San Diego are outstanding. Obviously, NASCAR and its fans hope to see the Legacy Motor Club driver on the track more in 2026, but it remains to be determined.
Johnson is still capable of winning races in NASCAR, as seen in the 2025 Daytona 500. If William Byron and Tyler Reddick were involved in the last-lap wreck, Johnson would have pulled off a stunner. For now, Johnson will enjoy his limited schedule in the Cup Series, but the goal is still to go out and win races.
