CFP quarterfinal preview Oregon vs Texas Tech
Texas Tech’s dominant defensive front faces Oregon’s O-line in a CFP quarterfinal showdown that could hinge on Dante Moore’s playmaking.
With a stunning win over Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, Miami has cleansed the demons lingering from its loss in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. Its reward: a trip back to Arizona for a place in the national championship game.
The Hurricanes beat the Buckeyes 24-14 on Dec. 31, taking the defending champs out of the College Football Playoff. The win obviously means a lot to Mario Cristobal, Malachi Toney and the rest of the team, but long-suffering UM fans can be at peace knowing the rogue penalty that cost them the 2002 title has been avenged.
Now comes one more trip west. They won’t know who their opponent will be until late Jan. 1 — Georgia and Ole Miss don’t kick off in the Sugar Bowl until 8 p.m. ET — but it’s hard to believe anyone would be more motivated than Miami in that matchup. The prize for one more victory is the right to play at their home stadium for the national championship.
