Nina was the long-running business correspondent for the Beeb’s Breakfast show and often stepped in to co-host during staff absence and holiday.

But the TV journalist quit in March this year to join BBC News at One as the lead presenter, live from Salford.

People watching the morning news were thrilled to see Nina back presenting.

“She’s so natural with people and a true pro. You’ve been missed – but love you on the 1300 news too,” wrote one person on X, formerly Twitter.

Another added: “SO nice to have Nina back on the sofa.”

And a third wrote: “Nice to see Nina for a change this morning.”

Nina left BBC Breakfast in spring for the new role and was congratulated by the BBC’s big boss for Breakfast and News, Richard Frediani, at the time.

“Delighted to welcome Nina Warhurst as a regular presenter of the News at One from April,” he said in a statement at the time.

“Congratulations – a brilliant addition to the team in Salford.”

Nina replaced journalist Anna Foster on the lunchtime news, who left her position as the anchor of BBC News At One.

Anna moved from doing TV news bulletins in order to become a leading presenter on BBC Radio 4’s long-running flagship programme, Today.

Just a couple of months after Nina moved to News at One, she announced the sad news that her father had died.

Her dad Chris had been diagnosed with dementia in 2022 and she opened up on BBC Breakfast about how that had impacted her family.

In July, she shared a photo of her holding her dad’s hand, as she described the final moments they’d shared together before his death.

Nina, 44, wrote: “My Dad died on Wednesday night

“From Sunday me, my Mum and sisters spent precious time with him around the clock….singing, crying, laughing, sharing memories

“On his last day we had nursing home afternoon tea, chippy chips and wine together.

“He drifted away gently with me and Amy holding him and telling him to “go head. We’ll see you there soon.” And he did. I had my hand on his heart as the ripples softened and stopped.

“A gentle end to a gentle life. So much love and laughter and sunshine across days I’ll never forget.”

Nina went on: “He is in my mind all the time now as we adjust to a world without him in it. I can’t quite accept that’s real yet.

“But we think it’s really important for anyone going through this to know that the end can be peaceful and beautiful.”
