Family says former Texas A&M student missing again after being located by police

JERSEY VILLAGE, Texas (KBTX) – Sydney Marquez, the former Texas A&M student who went missing on Dec. 11, was found by police this morning, but her family says she is now missing again.

According to Marquez’s family, a concerned citizen in Jersey Village sent a tip to police, reporting they had seen her. Jersey Village Police located Sydney, took her to the police station, and then called the Marquez family.

Sydney’s sister, Clarissa, told KBTX that Jersey Village police agreed to hold Sydney while the family came to pick her up but she was ultimately released because she was “oriented enough” to be let go. According to Clarissa, the family was not contacted by Jersey Police about Sydney being released but that an anonymous individual reached out to the family to let them know. The family then reached out to police to confirm.

According to the Marquez family, the police told them that Sydney was alert, knew her date of birth, the day, and even where she was. Still, the Marquez family expressed concern that Sydney was released alone.

Clarissa told KBTX that the police department did apologize for letting her go.

KBTX has reached out to the Jersey Village Police Department for comment. At this time, the Marquez family and police are looking for Sydney in the Jersey Village area.

Sydney, who is from El Paso, went missing in Houston while visiting a friend. Her family says she has a documented mental health history, being diagnosed with Bipolar disorder, and they do not believe she is safe.

Anyone with information should contact the Jersey Village Police Department or the Houston Police Department.
