The lives of the uber-rich residing in Florida’s most exclusive area are on full display in Netflix’s latest reality series, Members Only: Palm Beach.

The eight-part show follows five central cast members who are all on different levels in the town’s social hierarchy, ranging from relative newcomer Ro-mina Ustayev through to established socialite, Hilary Musser.

As wellness guru Taja Abitbol brutally states on the show: “If Palm Bach society were a high-rise building, Hilary and I are definitely in the penthouses, and Ro-mina’s in the basement.”

Although not in the main cast, one of the series’ standout stars is ‘Grande Dame’ Gale Brophy. The veteran of Palm Beach’s social circuit makes an appearance throughout the show as a mentor to philanthropist Rosalyn Yellin.

As well as offering her mentee words of wisdom in how to navigate the often unforgiving and cutthroat world of the ultra-rich, she also informally appoints her the new ‘queen’ of the island, handing her a physical baton and crown much to the confusion of the other cast members.

She also regales the cast with some incredible stories about her life and career, prompting rumours she isn’t genuine which she quickly dispels by printing out her pages-long CV and handing it out, and bringing a stack of magazine articles about herself to a party.

So who is this iconic new reality star? And how did she come to rub shoulders with the rich and famous?

Today, she is the CEO and owner of a property company, running two five-star estates which are billed as an alternative getaway to The Hamptons. Both are located in the Catskill mountains in New York State and accommodate large groups.

Before this, she held top positions in a number of lucrative businesses in the worlds of finance, PR and especially horse racing. Gale was involved in breeding thoroughbred horses for decades and was the co-owner of 1991 Kentucky Derby Winner, Strike the Gold. She also managed two multi-million dollar horse farms, according to her CV.

In a 2019 radio interview, Gale recalled that MC Hammer had tried to buy her winning horse, but she refused to sell it. She said: “MC Hammer was trying to buy the horse. And kept offering money, and I was like you’re not buying this horse. This horse is going to win the Kentucky Derby.”

Her knowledge and ability to spot a winner was a huge part of her rise, but her work off the race course earned her great respect too. As reported by The Global Billionaire, Gale has worked tirelessly for causes close to her heart, from equine welfare and children’s health to female empowerment. Now she can add reality star to her ever-growing CV.
