New BBC London weather forecast predicts nearly 2 weeks of rain and sleet – but there’s a silver lining
It isn’t all bad news for weather in the capital
We’re due some icy rain – but there’s hope on the horizon
London is set to be hammered by nearly two weeks of rain and sleet. But the general public will be happy to hear that it isn’t all bad news for weather in the capital.
While it will be damp and dreary, freezing temperatures are set to rise over the same time period. By Saturday January 17, we will be experiencing highs of 8C in London.
Rain and sleet will hit the capital from Wednesday, January 7 until Saturday, January 17. Recent temperatures have been as low as -1C, but these will steadily rise over the time period to around the 8C mark.
An emergency protocol for rough sleepers in London was recently activated by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan due to temperatures plummeted to below zero. SWEP opens up beds indoors for the capital’s homeless during particularly cold periods.

Yellow weather warnings for snow and ice have been put in place across the country. These are primarily affecting Scotland, parts of the North, the East Coast, the West Country and Wales. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has also issued amber cold health alerts for England until January 6.
Dr Agostinho Sousa, Head of Extreme Events and Health Protection at UKHSA, said: “As the colder weather sets in it is vital to check in on friends, family and neighbours that are most vulnerable.
“The forecast temperatures can have a serious impact on the health of some people, leading to increased risk of heart attacks, strokes and chest infections, particularly for individuals over the age of 65 and those with pre-existing health conditions.”
