Arrest made on Long Island in what is believed to be New York State’s first murder of 2026

NEW CASSEL, Long Island (WABC) — An arrest was made in what may have been New York State’s first murder of 2026.

Police in Nassau County say Stephen Primm of Bay Shore opened fire on Joseph Fountain, 40, in New Cassel around 2 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

Fountain was struck four times.

The shooting took place in front of a home where the victim and a third man were fighting.

Police say Primm has prior arrests for drugs, assault and burglary.
