Report: Cardinals to interview former DC Vance Joseph for head coach

The Arizona Cardinals are expected to interview Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph for head coach this week, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
He is also expected to meet with the Las Vegas Raiders, Tennessee Titans and New York Giants.
The report comes a day after Arizona fired head coach Jonathan Gannon following three seasons on the job. General manager Monti Ossenfort is now on the search for his second head coach in his Cardinals’ tenure.
Joseph knows a thing or two about the Cardinals, having served as Arizona’s defensive coordinator under former head coach Kliff Kingsbury from 2019-22.
During that time, Arizona’s defense saw steady improvement under Joseph, allowing just 21.5 points per game in 2021, before the Cardinals’ collapse the following season.
He’s also interviewed for the Cardinals’ head-coaching job once before following the firing of Kingsbury.
While the Cardinals eventually landed on Gannon, Joseph found success in his return to the Broncos.
He currently heads the second best defense in the league, which allowed just 278.2 yards per game. The unit also posted the third fewest points allowed at 18.3.
Joseph’s defense is a big reason why the Broncos entered the postseason as the No. 1 seed after going 14-3.
As far as prior head-coaching experience, Joseph has that, too.
Before heading to Arizona in 2019, the defensive coordinator was the lead man in Denver from 2017-18.
The Broncos struggled to muster much success behind a 11-21 mark before his firing.
