Rangers have been hit by a double hammer blow after discovering both Connor Barron and Dujon Sterling could be sidelined for a crucial stretch of the title run-in.
The pair were sent for scans following Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over Aberdeen with boss Danny Rohl initially hopeful that they would be given the green light to return to action this Sunday at Pittodrie.
But Record Sport can reveal that Rohl has received the worst possible news from his medical department and is now planning to have to make do without them for the foreseeable future.
It’s understood Barron – who limped off shortly before full time – has suffered a knee injury which could keep the dynamic midfielder out of action until March at the earliest.

Sterling damaged a hamstring in a second half cameo from the bench and is now looking at another long stretch in the treatment room – after spending eight months of last year out with a ruptured achilles.
Sterling only returned to the first team at the start of December and was fast emerging as a mainstay in Rohl’s side, keeping stalwart James Tavernier out of the German’s starting XI in the derby day win over Celtic.
Now Rohl will have to rely on his ageing skipper to hold down the right back slot with only Max Aarons as back up.
There is as yet no defined timeline for Sterling’s recovery but the defender is braced for bad news.

Barron, on the other hand, already knows the extent of his injury and has been told he’ll miss somewhere between two to three months of the campaign, as Rangers attempt to hunt down Hearts at the top of the table.
The Scotland international has been a key performer in recent weeks for Rohl and turned in a man of the match display in Tuesday’s win over the Dons – setting up both goals with deadball deliveries for Manny Fernandez and Nico Raskin.
Rohl had been hoping to beef up his options in midfield with the £4m capture of Sturm Graz enforcer Tochi Chukwani.
Now the Danish under 21 international, who is expected to be unveiled in the next 24 hours, may have to be fast-tracked straight into Rohl’s plans for Sunday’s return trip to the north east.
