Ukraine war latest: Moscow fires hypersonic missile in major Ukraine attack – as Qatari embassy hit by drone

Military historian and analyst Dr Victoria Taylor has been explaining more about the Oreshnik hypersonic missile that Russia fired towards Lviv overnight.
“Putin loves to use that hypersonic element and when we’re discussing these kind of ballistic missiles, it does of course make its interception incredibly difficult,” she told our presenter Samantha Washington.
“What also makes it even more difficult is the fact that it fragments in flight as well, so it’s quite an unpredictable beast.”
It’s not the first time the Russians have deployed it – that moment came in November 2024.
“This isn’t entirely new technology,” Taylor added.
“But at the same time it is important to look at the fact that it is incredibly fast, and right now Western defence systems aren’t particularly geared to cope with it.”
