The restaurant became popular through owner Jack Brown and Head Chef Aaron McLellan’s use of fresh local ingredients following its opening in October 2024.

Famished punters could take their pic from six and ten-course tasting menus, a four-course lunch menu or a vegetarian equivalent of each.

Its rousing success led to the Michelin Guide hailing it as providing “intricate, ambitious creations with a playful streak”.

It also paid tribute to its waiting staff, adding that “the friendly service team will help make your visit feel special”.

The statement posted to social media to confirm the closure read: “It is with much sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the permanent closure of Hide.

“We are extremely proud of the product we created and shared with so many, however 2025 was such a challenging year and unfortunately the business became unsustainable.

“Our team has been incredibly hardworking and at the heart of all the achievements, including being included in the Michelin Guide in under a year.

“For this we are truly grateful and eternally proud of all those who contributed!

“Hide ended 2025 on a bang, bringing in the new year with a full service and smiles on our faces.

“And finally, to all those who have visited, thank you for your support and sharing some great moments with us.”

Diners who were left devastated by the closure flocked to pay homage to the former eatery.

One customer replied: “Ah man what a shame! Fantastic spot, fantastic team.

“Will be missed!”

A second weighed in: “So sorry to hear this guys!

“Food was amazing!”

It comes just days after an award-winning Michelin-star restaurant said it would be shutting up shop after just six years in business.

On New Year’s Eve, Hjem restaurant, located in the Hadrian Hotel in Hexham, replaced its usual tasting menu with a night of celebration dubbed “Hjem’s Last Hurrah”.

“We wanted our final night at Hjem to feel like a true celebration – not just of what we’ve achieved, but of the people who have been part of it,” head chef and co-founder Alex Nietosvuori said.

“Every dish, every song, every glass raised will be a thank you to our guests and team.”
