Melbourne derby rematch after thriller as rivalry add another chapter — BBL LIVE

Once again, the uber-talented Jake Fraser-McGirk isn’t able to build on a decent start, but his innings wasn’t without some drama.

After nine overs, the Renegades are 2-81.

Fraser-McGirk was dismissed for 17. An over earlier, he skied one which hit the Marvel Stadium roof.

Originally, the rules stated that if a batsman hit the roof, it would be an automatic six, but that was changed ahead of the 2023-24 BBL season.

Now, it’s up to the umpires to determine if the ball was going to clear the boundary before hitting the roof. If they decide it wasn’t, it is deemed a dead ball.

For Fraser-McGirk’s strike, the umpires ruled it wasn’t going over the boundary, so the ball was rebowled.

“Because they ascertained it wasn’t going to clear the rope, it is a dead ball. Good call,” Mark Howard said on Fox Cricket.
