Top Women’s Teams Dominate On Day 1 Of 2026 National Duals

Top-seeded Iowa will see a familiar foe in the 2026 National Duals NCAA All-Divisions semifinal after blitzing through the first two rounds. The Hawkeyes face fourth-seeded North Central — the same team that has finished second behind Iowa at the past two National Duals and National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships.
That will change this season, since only one team can reach the finals.
North Central defeated Emmanuel 31-13 and Quincy 42-2.
Iowa defeated William Jewell 40-5 and Sacred Heart 39-3.
Quincy scored a surprise 26-23 win over fifth-seeded King University to face North Central. The Hawks won five matches, with three falls and two techs.
The National Duals marked the college return of Iowa’s Kylie Welker, a two-time national champion and two-time Senior World bronze medalist. She took the first semester off after a busy summer that included numerous international events. The Hawkeye star secured a 10-0 tech in the quarterfinals.
Xochitl Mota-Pettis (Quincy) moved up from 131 to 138 to face 2024 national champion Claire DiCugno (North Central). She raced to an 8-0 lead before DiCugno stormed back for a 9-8 victory.
Second-seeded McKendree took care of business on the bottom side. The Bearcats downed Gannon 40-0 before a 37-6 win over Colorado Mesa. Lorianna Piestewa of Colorado scored the lone win of the dual with a 10-4 upset over returning 124-pound national finalist Shelby Moore.
Four-time national champion Cam Guerin returned after missing the entire 2025 season with an injury. She won by fall over Jaylene Martinez of Gannon, marking her first match in nearly two years.
The Bearcats also unleashed two Army WCAP stars, with Jasmine Robinson (160) and Tristan Kelly (207) garnering wins. Robinson was down 8-0 against Gannon’s Rose Cassioppi — the same opponent she defeated in the 2021 Junior National finals — before securing a fall late in the first period.
Third-seeded Grand Valley State opened with a 43-2 win over Sioux Falls, then survived sixth-seeded Presbyterian, 24-17. Sage Mortimer picked up five crucial team points at 117 when she won by injury default against Jenna Anderson. The two were in a back-and-forth battle, with Mortimer leading 12-9 when Anderson forfeited with 1:41 remaining.
Iowa and McKendree appear on a collision course for the National Duals finals.
Will Life Run To Another National Duals Title?
Life University is seeking its fourth National Duals crown in five seasons, and all signs point to a title run. The Running Eagles dispatched Missouri Valley (43-2) and Texas Wesleyan (39-9) to reach the semifinals.
Life will face William Penn after the Statesmen defeated Campbellsville 41-5 and Lindsey Wilson 22-20. The Statesmen are without Nigerian Olympians and returning NAIA champions Christianah Ogusanya (117) and Esther Kolawole (145), who are at their country’s World Team Trials.
The National Duals also marked the return of Mia Palumbo to the William Penn line-up after missing the 2025 season with an injury. The three-time NAIA finalist and 2024 national champion is expected to compete at 110, but filled in for Ogunsanya at 117. She snagged a tech and a fall during her college return.
Lindsey Wilson’s Kamilah Brooks won 3-2 over Victoria Baez Dilone at 124, marking one of the bigger upsets of the National Duals. Baez Dilone was a 2024 NCWWC finalist for King before transferring to William Penn.
Third-seeded Grand View survived two scares to reach the semifinals. The Vikings used a fall at 207 to overtake Cumberlands in the first round, 27-20, then logged back-to-back falls in the final two matches to overtake Indiana Tech in the quarters, 24-23.
Second-seeded Providence blitzed through the bottom half, downing Dickinson State 42-6 and Southern Oregon 34-9. The Argos look in top form, and their lower weights match up well with the Running Eagles, should both teams reach the finals.
Division III In-State Bragging Rights?
A women’s Division III bracket was added to the tournament, and it appears in-state rivals Wartburg (Waverly, Iowa) and Simpson (Indianola, Iowa) are on track to meet in the finals. The Knights downed Albion 45-0 and Eastern 36-11, and Simpson defeated Marymount 45-3 and Pacific 41-8.
Action begins at 11:30 AM Eastern on Saturday, January 10, live on FloWrestling.
