Ryanair flight in Edinburgh landing due to ‘unexpected’ conditions

A flight from Dublin was forced to divert due to dangerous conditions brough about by Storm Goretti.
The Ryanair flight was bound for Newcastle on Thursday, January 8 when adverse weather conditions altered their route.
An unexpected runway closure at Newcastle Airport caused the incident, according to Ryanair bosses.
Alternate travel was arranged for passengers from Edinburgh to Newcastle and travelers were kept up to date by the airline.
Due to limited availability, Ryanair also offered affected passengers to option for individual transport. All customers can be reimbursed for such arrangements.
The travel mayhem comes as snow and ice weather warnings were extended for Edinburgh residents into the weekend.
A yellow warning has been extended to last until Saturday at 3pm after being put in force from midday on Friday, January 9.
A further warning has been put in place for Sunday with locals warned to expect snow and ice from 2am until 3pm. Freezing temperatures continue to batter the northern parts of Scotland as residents face blizzards and amber warnings.
A spokesperson from Ryanair said: “This flight from Dublin to Newcastle (8 Jan) diverted to Edinburgh due to an unexpected runway closure at Newcastle Airport as a result of adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Goretti.
“Passengers were kept up to date via email, SMS, and PUSH notifications. To get passengers to their final destination as quickly as possible, we arranged for alternative transport from Edinburgh to Newcastle.
“Despite Ryanair’s efforts to arrange alternative transport, availability was limited, and passengers were advised that they could also arrange individual transport from Edinburgh to Newcastle and claim back the expense at Ryanair.com.”
