Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day

QPR or draw double chance

West Ham vs QPR
FA Cup, 2.30pm Sunday

It is almost two decades since West Ham lost on penalties to Liverpool in a dramatic 2006 FA Cup final and the Hammers have not had much success in the competition since then.

Their best efforts were quarter-final defeats to Stoke in 2011 and Manchester United in 2016 and Sunday’s third-round tie against QPR looks a tricky assignment.

West Ham’s miserable Premier League form means they are increasingly likely to be facing QPR in the Championship next season.

Defeats to bottom club Wolves and survival rivals Nottingham Forest in the Hammers’ last two outings stretched their winless run to ten games and they have to be opposed at the London Stadium.

QPR are only three points off the playoff positions after a solid run of six wins in their last 11 games and their attacking firepower is a concern for a leaky West Ham side.

The Hoops, who beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 last weekend, have failed to score in only three of their 26 Championship fixtures and strikers Richard Kone and Rayan Kolli should cause problems for Sunday’s hosts.

West Ham have lost all six Premier League meetings with their fellow London clubs and QPR could deliver more capital punishment for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men in the cup.
