Recall for cheese in 20 states upgraded to highest class due to potential for listeria

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A cheese recall that affects 20 states was upgraded to the FDA’s most dangerous classification after the products tested positive for a potentially deadly bacteria.
The Food and Drug Administration released an updated recall report on January 6 that reclassified multiple recalled products to Class I, meaning “there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, [the] product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death,” according to the organization’s website. These adverse affects are due to the presence of listeria monocytogenes in the products, a potentially deadly bacteria.
“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” per the FDA.
The initial recall was announced on November 21, 2025 and included multiple cheese products from the Ambriola Company, who own Ambriola, Locatelli, Member’s Mark, Pinna, and Boar’s Head.
The updated recall did not increase the classification of all eight products included in the initial recall, only three. Those products are:
