Former Alabama WR lands with another SEC team out of transfer portal

Former Alabama football wide receiver and punt returner Cole Adams has found his new home out of the transfer portal. Adams is moving on to Nashville, committing to Vanderbilt.

Adams shared the news to his social media on Friday. He had spent three seasons in Tuscaloosa before entering the transfer portal.

The Oklahoma native had trouble getting on the field as a wideout in Tuscaloosa. However, he earned praise from coaches throughout his time at UA.

“Cole is a really savvy route runner,” Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb said of Adams in August. “He knows how to get in and out of breaks. He understands how to play off the leverage of defenders, read coverages. In the last week and a half, has probably made more contested catches than anybody on the team.

“That’s one of the things I don’t think you’d necessarily think from a guy that’s a little bit smaller in stature, but he’s very competitive when the football’s in the air.”

The 5-foot-10, 183-pound Adams finished 2025 with five catches for 71 yards and a touchdown. All of his offensive contributions came against Louisiana-Monroe and Eastern Illinois.

Adams also returned 20 punts for 171 yards last season. He returned one kickoff for 20 yards as well.

He was a four-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting class. Adams entered the portal after Alabama’s season came to an end with a 38-3 loss to Indiana in the Rose Bowl.

Adams was one of four Alabama wide receivers who opted to enter the portal after the season ended. Jaylen Mbakwe, Jalen Hale and Isaiah Horton have also entered, while Rico Scott first decided to leave, but later reversed course and rejoined the Crimson Tide.

Adams will see his old team on Nov. 14, when UA visits FirstBank Stadium in Nashville. Alabama lost last time it played at Vanderbilt, but took down the Commodores in Tuscaloosa this past season.

The transfer portal will remain open for undergraduate entry through Jan. 16.
