After more than 130 years, the owners of Dittrich Furs — one of the city’s oldest privately held businesses and a Detroit fashion icon — announced their retirement and closing of the company.
The fifth-generation owners made the announcement Saturday on its website dittrichfurs.com and on social media:

Since 1893, Dittrich Furs has been honored to serve Detroit and Southeast Michigan and to hold the title of the city’s oldest privately held business. For 132 years and five generations, our family has been proud to provide the finest fur and natural material fashions, along with the craftsmanship, care, and personal service that have defined who we are.
It is with deep gratitude—and a somewhat heavy heart—that we share this news. After much reflection, the Dittrich family has made the decision to retire and focus on the health and well-being of our family. This decision marks the closing of a remarkable era, one filled with relationships, traditions, and memories we will always cherish.
As we prepare to close our doors, we will be holding a retirement liquidation sale.
