Patriots LB Jack Gibbens feels right at home after special year

Veteran linebacker Jack Gibbens is happy he landed with the New England Patriots in the offseason.

The former Tennessee Titans defender reunited with his former head coach, Mike Vrabel, in New England, and he has played a vital role in the team’s turnaround season. In only one year, the Patriots have gone from a bottom-dwelling 4-13 team to a 14-3 team that earned the No. 2 seed in the AFC.

More importantly, Vrabel has changed the culture in the locker room. You can see it in the interactions on and off the field. The Patriots are full of players who genuinely love one another and want to see their teammates succeed.

“It’s been an unbelievable year. Me and my wife were talking about it last night. I just kinda feel like God led me to the right spot,” Gibbens told reporters. “I wouldn’t wanna be anywhere else. This team has been unbelievable. Everything, players, coaches, support staff, just the organization as a whole—it feels like a family here. I love being a Patriot.”

Gibbens has been an integral part of the linebacker group. He has recorded 81 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble this season.

He has proven especially important for the team with key injuries at the linebacker position. The former undrafted defender has stepped up and played meaningful snaps in recent weeks with Robert Spillane out with a foot injury.

Those extra reps will do him well when his number is called in Sunday’s playoff game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
