Sainsbury’s urgently recalls popular meat product due to ‘possible health risk’ telling shoppers ‘do not eat’

SAINSBURY’S slow cooked lamb shoulder has been urgently recalled as it contains an allergen not written on the label.

Undeclared milk used in the preparation of the meat joint means the supermarket giant is recalling the product from customers.

Customers who have the Sainsbury’s Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder with Redcurrant Honey & Rosemary Glaze have been asked to return the product to shops.

The lamb shoulder weighs 400g and has a use-by date of January 21, 2026.

It contains milk, which is not mentioned on the label.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: “Sainsbury’s is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

“The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to customers and the attached notice explains to customers the reason for the recall and how to return products purchased.

In the UK, food packaging must be labelled with the allergens the product contains.

The FSA advised worried customers: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, do not eat it.

“Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”

Sainsbury’s added: “We are advising customers who purchased this product not to eat it and return it to their nearest Sainsbury’s store.

“For further details, please visit our website Sainsburys.co.uk/help or you can contact our careline on 0800 636 262.”

“We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused by this recall,” it added.

“The safety and quality of our products is very important to us, and we take all issues regarding the safety of our products seriously.”
