Rays, Hillsborough College officials may clarify stadium site ideas soon

TAMPA, Fla. — The stadium plans of the new ownership group of the Tampa Bay Rays may become clearer soon.

According to Spectrum Bay News 9’s partner newspaper the Tampa Bay Business Journal, the group could be looking at Hillsborough College on Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa as a potential site.

The Hillsborough College district board of trustees is expected to hold a vote next week that could explore the possibility.

The plan reportedly calls for a 110-acre mixed use district, which lines up with what the Rays’ new owners have said they are looking for.

The college’s board of trustees, which controls the 100-acre campus, has not commented.

The Rays’ lease at Tropicana Field runs through the 2028 season. The team’s new ownership group, led by Jacksonville homebuilder Patrick Zalupski, has targeted 2029 to be in a new stadium.
