Micky van de Ven’s long-term Tottenham future is a cause of concern for some Spurs fans.

Van de Ven swapped Wolfsburg for Tottenham in the summer of 2023 on a six-year contract, and since then he has become a firm fan favourite at the club.

He has since made 78 appearances for Spurs, scoring nine goals along the way, with his wondergoal at Tottenham beat Copenhagen earlier this season likely to live long in the memory.

As his stock grows, top teams will be clamouring for his signature, and for the time being, Van de Ven seems unlikely to sign a contract extension at Tottenham.

While he may not be extending his stay at the north London team, who are languishing in 14th in the Premier League, the Dutchman was delighted to see contract news coming out of Newcastle United.

Micky van de Ven sends message as Sven Botman pens Newcastle extension

Newcastle United announced that centre-back Botman had signed a new contract until 2030 on Monday.

The 26-year-old had entered the final 18 months of his original deal, but now he has committed his long-term future to Eddie Howe’s side.

The Netherlands international said: “I’m really happy to sign this contract. This club has given me so much in the past three and a half years. I’ve grown as a person and as a player here and I feel like I have so much more to give in the long term.

That’s why both parties are really happy with this decision and I’m looking forward to what’s coming in the future here.”

He also took to Instagram to express his delight at the news, saying he felt “blessed” to take this next step.

Among the many well-wishers, fellow Dutchman Van de Ven aired his support for Botman’s new deal by posting a fire emoji in the comments. Whether he follows suit at Spurs remains to be seen.

What is the latest with Micky van de Ven’s Tottenham future?

While Van de Ven is arguably in the form of his life at Tottenham, the defender’s displays are not being matched by Spurs’ position this season.

Although Spurs are in with a chance of automatically qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League this season, with Frank’s team currently one point and three places outside the top eight, they are underwhelming in the Premier League.

Frank is under pressure to keep his job at Tottenham and if they don’t improve, fears are growing that the 24-year-old could head for pastures new this year.

Indeed, the Dutchman, whose contract runs until 2029, has been linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid, although Van de Ven is said to favour a move to rivals Barcelona.

If Tottenham are able to keep hold of one of their biggest assets, they will need to start performing better on the pitch.
