Chicago Bears announce roster moves

The Chicago Bears on Tuesday announced that the club has placed linebacker T.J. Edwards and offensive lineman Ozzy Trapilo on Reserve/Injured.
Chicago has also activated offensive lineman Braxton Jones from Reserve/Injured; Designated for Return and signed linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin to the active roster. Additionally, the Bears have signed linebacker Nephi Sewell to the practice squad.
Jones has started 44-of-46 career games at left tackle since being selected by the Bears in the fifth round (168th overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft. Jones started all 17 games at left tackle for Chicago as a rookie in 2022. This year, Jones started each of the first four games of the regular season, including the Week 3 win over Dallas in which Chicago’s offensive front did not allow a sack. A native of Murray, Utah, Jones played collegiately at Southern Utah (2017-21), appearing in 35 career games for the Thunderbirds. Jones capped his collegiate career with First-Team AP FCS All-America honors following his final season at Southern Utah (2021).
Reeves-Maybin, who is in his ninth NFL season in 2025, initially joined the Bears prior to Week 12, appearing in three games with Chicago, before returning to the practice squad in advance of the NFC Wild Card Round. Reeves-Maybin has appeared in 117 career regular-season games (14 starts), as well as five postseason outings, for the Bears (2025), Lions (2017-21, ’23-24) and Houston Texans (2022) since entering the league as a fourth-round selection (124th overall) by Detroit in 2017. Reeves-Maybin has amassed 160 tackles (109 solo), including nine tackles for loss, five forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries defensively, adding 63 career special teams tackles. In 2023, Reeves-Maybin earned AP Second-Team All-Pro status and Pro Bowl recognition for his performance on special teams. A native of Clarksville, Tenn., Reeves-Maybin appeared in 41 career collegiate games at Tennessee (2013-16), amassing 240 tackles (149 solo), including 27 tackles for loss, earning Second-Team All-Southeastern Conference honors in 2015.
Sewell has appeared in 30 career games (one start) over his four professional seasons, all with the New Orleans Saints (2022-25). Since entering the league as an undrafted free agent with the Saints in 2022, Sewell has totaled 18 career tackles, including four tackles for loss, and one forced fumble on defense, with an additional eight total special teams tackles. A native of St. George, Utah, Sewell spent two seasons at Nevada (2017-18) before culminating his collegiate career at Utah (2019-21), totaling 44 career appearances (37 starts). Following his final collegiate season (2021), Sewell was named AP First-Team All-Pac-12 Conference after totaling 89 tackles, one interception and a forced fumble for the Utes. Sewell is the older brother of Bears LB Noah Sewell.
