Portland’s Bartini, Urban Fondue to close after 20 years

A longtime Northwest Portland fondue restaurant and its adjacent martini bar will close after 20 years in business, according to a press release.

The side-by-side Northwest Glisan Street concepts, Urban Fondue and Bartini, will call it quits in February.

The press release blamed the closure on “a declining neighborhood environment, (exorbitant) city taxes and increasingly unreasonable lease terms imposed by the landlord.”

“Closing our beloved restaurant is not a decision we take lightly,” owner Mark Byrum said in the release. “Unfortunately, ongoing neighborhood decline combined with untenable landlord demands have made continued operation no longer viable.”

The sibling concepts opened in 2003 with fondue and inventive martinis available in both the red velvet booths of Urban Fondue, 2114 N.W. Glisan St., or the stylish adjoining martini bar Bartini, 2108 N.W. Glisan St.

The final night for both the restaurant and bar will be Feb. 22, 2026.
