Jalen Brunson’s latest injury is worrying for the Knicks’ contender bid

The New York Knicks are currently in a rut, losing six out of their last eight games. It is the worst stretch of the season for the Knicks, which is disappointing given that most NBA experts would agree they are the favorites to win the Eastern Conference.
In their latest game on Wednesday, the Knicks lost to the lowly Sacramento Kings. They struggled, but it came after superstar guard Jalen Brunson was ruled out of the game in the first quarter due to an ankle injury.
The Knicks have a huge problem without Brunson
While the Knicks did not have Brunson for an extended period earlier in the season, they managed to stay afloat. They have gotten used to seeing him as the star player again, as the Knicks have won a good number of games with him.
Unfortunately, his latest injury could be a huge problem if it is worse than expected. He did not return to the game against the Kings, which could be scary. Of course, it could be precautionary, but the Knicks desperately need him.

If it is as bad as people fear, the Knicks’ season could be significantly shifted. The rest of the team is not playing as well as the fans would hope, especially with Karl-Anthony Towns’ struggles.
However, it appears that Brunson might be good to go after a short while. The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III posted that Brunson did not have a boot or crutches when he walked out of the locker room after the Kings game.
Of course, the confirmations are yet to come, but that is an encouraging sign. Despite the promising signs, it does show that the Knicks are not as good without Brunson. The other players must step up if they want to maintain their status as championship contenders.
