Saints legend Cam Jordan schools Tyler Shough on New Orleans’ must-try restaurants

New Orleans Saints veteran defensive end Cam Jordan recently had the Saints’ new starting quarterback, Tyler Shough, on his “Off The Edge with Cam Jordan” podcast.

On the show, Jordan asked Shough if he had a favorite restaurant in New Orleans yet.

Shough leaned back, rolled his eyes, and took a deep breath, physically showing how overwhelmed the options made him.

Sushi

“I’ve got a couple of different categories,” Shough said. “I think if you have like six to eight people, like a family outing, I love Saba. Rock-n-Saké [Bar & Sushi] with the boys was awesome. That was epic.”

Jordan then asked Shough if Rock-n-Saké was better than Yakuza House.

“Yakuza House is elite, now,” Jordan said.

Creole

“I’ve been there many times,” Shough said. “Yakuza House with the sashimi? That is elite. That is really cool, but with the guys? Rock-n-Saké was really cool. Neyow’s [Creole Café], shout out to Neyow’s.”

“Shout out to Neyow’s,” Jordan said. “Daiquiris out there going crazy.”

“Yeah, they’ve got the Creole cuisine,” Shough said. “Dude, I’m in there, and it’s like I’m the only white person. They’ve got full Nelly going on on the radio. They’ve got [Miami rapper] Gunplay, you know, just straight cuss words going on in there. I’m like, ‘This is sick. This is awesome.’”

Shough then leaned back, smiled, and started bobbing his head, reimagining the scene.

“I’m like, ‘Yeah!’” Shough said. “Yeah, it was a great time. I mean, you could handpick any of them.”

Tacos and sandwiches

Shough also said he liked the Barracuda Taco Stand.

“It was a nice little outdoor vibe,” Shough said.

Jordan said he was upset Francolini’s wasn’t open across the street from the stand at the time the team visited Barracuda.

“I was going to double dip,” Jordan said. “Francolini’s is a little sandwich spot. You know, Italian, a super sub type of situation. Freshly-made focaccia.

“Yeah, New Orleans doesn’t lack places to eat. Shout out to Port Orleans [Brewing Co.], they have really good food, too.”

First offseason in New Orleans

Shough thanked Jordan for the recommendations. The quarterback said he’s excited to spend his first NFL offseason in New Orleans with the birth of his son due in February.

“I’m fired up to kind of be here in the offseason and start exploring some more,” Shough said. “Because you only get — in season, you get a lot of facility food most of the time, some o-line dinners like you said, so you get to branch out, which is fun.”

Steak

Jordan also recommended Desi’s Vega’s Steakhouse, which Shough said he was already familiar with.

“Desi’s my guy,” Shough said. “He’s got some. If you’re going to go to a steakhouse and you’ve got some people in town, you can’t go wrong with Desi’s.”

Jordan mentioned the red velvet brownie at the steakhouse that he looks forward to enjoying now that the offseason has returned.

“After we wrap this up, let’s go get some dinner, bro,” Shough said.
