GREEN. BAY – Green Bay Packers defensive line coach and run game coordinator DeMarcus Covington will interview for a defensive coordinator position in Dallas.
According to multiple reports, Covington will interview with Cowboys for their coordinator position, which opened when Matt Eberflus was fired after the season.

The Cowboys are interviewing at least 10 candidates for the position, including Denver pass game coordinator and former Wisconsin defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard, and Eagles pass game coordinator Christian Parker, a former Packers assistant.

Covington, who joined the Packers in February, spent eight seasons with the New England Patriots, including one (2024) as defensive coordinator. He coached linebackers and defensive line with the Patriots.
General manager Brian Gutekunst and defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley both praised the work that Covington did with the defensive line. In addition to preparing rookies Warren Brinson and Nazir Stackhouse to play, veterans Devante Wyatt and Colby Wooden had the best years of their career.

The Packers ranked 18th in the NFL in run defense and 12th in rushing yards allowed per carry. The Baltimore Ravens dominated the Packers front in a late-season loss, but the Packers played solidly against the run in the final two games against the Chicago Bears.
The Packers may be looking for a defensive coordinator soon. Hafley has received interest from five teams for their head coaching position and the Packers should know in a week or two whether he will be moving on.
Coach Matt LaFleur’s status also will play a part in determining whether the Packers need a new defensive coordinator. If LaFleur isn’t retained, there would be an opening.
If LaFleur stays and Hafley goes, Covington would likely be a candidate for the open defensive coordinator’s position.
