Is Twitter down? X down as Cloudflare outage impacts service

Elon Musk’s politics cost Tesla millions of US car sales: Yale study
Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s political presence since buying Twitter, now X, in 2022 has cost the car company more than a million car sales in the United States, according to a Yale study.
Users of the Elon Musk-owned social media app X, formerly Twitter, reported multiple outages on the morning of Friday, Jan. 16.
According to outage tracking website Downdetector.com, there were more than 77,000 incidents of problems reported by X users in the U.S. at 10:15 a.m. EST. Visitors reported the app failed to load and instead showed a blanket screen.
That number dropped to just over 63,000 around 10:45 a.m. ET.
Many users reported problems when trying to load the X timeline on the app and on desktop.
X down again
This is the second outage the social media app has experienced this week.
Visitors reported a similar issue with the app failing to load for roughly 24,000 users during a part of the day on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
What is challenges.cloudflare.com?
Many users reported having problems Cloudfare, which is an internet infrastructure that offers many of the core technologies that power today’s online experiences.
The Independent reported Cloudflare customers were experiencing “widespread 500 errors,” a message indicating that a website’s server is malfunctioning.
Verizon outage in US
The X outages comes days after Verizon experienced widespread wireless service outages throughout the US.
Numerous Verizon customers affected by the Jan. 14 service outage resulted in phones being switched to “SOS” mode.
DownDetector showed at least 170,000 service issues at about 12:45 p.m.
Verizon announced it had resolved the issue that day following a 7-hour interruption.
The nation’s largest wireless network outage began around 12:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Jan. 14 and impacted more than 1.5 million customers.
Verizon credit
The wireless carrier said in statements on X late Wednesday that it “let many of our customers down” and promised to provide account credits to affected customers.
There is no indication that the service interruption was the result of a cyberattack, but rather a software issue still under investigation, according to a Verizon statement released on Thursday, Jan. 15.
Due to the outage, Verizon announced it would offer impacted customers a $20 credit, available in the myVerizon mobile app, the company confirmed.
