Snow squalls pass through Omaha metro

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Omaha metro has been experiencing some snow squalls on Friday.

While there haven’t been any official snow squall warnings, the Omaha metro did see three snow showers pass through the area.

One blew through Omaha around 9:30 a.m., another in Council Bluffs around 11 a.m., and another came through Omaha again at noon.

Thin line of heavy wet snow along with gusty winds was reaching up to 40 mph as it moved to the southeast. It was fast-moving so it didn’t last long, but definitely decreased visibility for a few minutes.

The First Alert 6 Weather Team says the most intense bursts have likely past, a few more could pop up through the afternoon. That could mean wind gusts up to 45 mph along with reduced visibility briefly through the afternoon and maybe evening into the beginning of the Friday evening commute.

Still, the snow showers will get lighter and lighter, and there’s been no accumulation as the snow has melted off pretty quickly.

Snow squalls passing through central Nebraska, however, have made travel conditions dangerous.

This is a developing story. Stay with First Alert 6 for updates.
