Who is Gaten Matarazzo’s girlfriend, Elizabeth Yu?
Elizabeth Yu was born in October 2002 in New Jersey. She graduated from Pinelands Regional High School in Ocean County, N.J., in 2021. She made her debut with the 2022 film, Somewhere in Queens. However, she rose to fame with the Netflix series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, where she played the role of ‘Princess Azula’. A few months after her graduation, Elizabeth joined the cast of the Netflix series in December 2021. Avatar: The Last Airbender premiered in 2024. The series was renewed for a second and third season and concluded filming in May 2025 and November 2025, respectively.
Elizabeth also appeared in the film, May December and played the role of ‘Mary Atherton-Yoo’, the daughter of ‘Joe Yoo’ (played by Charles Melton) and ‘Gracie Atherton-Yoo’ (played by Julianne Moore). Recalling the moment when she read the script of May December for the first time, she told IndieWire in December 2023 that she was sitting on a couch with her boyfriend, Gaten Matarazzo. She shared about her feelings to act beside the phenomenal actors, Julianne and Charles Melton. Elizabeth was quoted as saying:
“They sent the script over for me to read, and I was sitting on the couch with my boyfriend reading the script and being like, ‘Oh, my God,’ because of the plot and everything, being like, ‘No way!,’ so shocked, and just being like, ‘Oh, my God, now I am going to go do that and act like I know what I’m even doing in front of these crazy, wild people.’ I left to go film that, probably two weeks or so after I had booked it. It really was just like jumping into the deep end, it was such a crazy experience. I’m still pinching myself.”

In September 2018, Elizabeth made an Instagram Live video, where she mentioned that she and her boyfriend, Gaten, first met on July 4, 2017. Later, on March 4, 2018, the duo started dating. The Avatar: The Last Airbender star shared her first snap with Gaten on Instagram in June 2018, when the latter was filming Season 3 of Stranger Things. Later in May 2023, the couple celebrated their fifth dating anniversary. It was Gaten who took to his Instagram handle and shared a carousel. Along with the array of pictures, he wrote:
